Trient glacier

Trient

The névés at the origin of the glacier are located on a two-kilometre wide strip at an altitude of between 3000 and 3200 m. They form the Trient plateau and are bordered to the west by the Aiguille du Tour, to the south by the Aiguille Dorée and to the east by the Pointe d'Orny.

The Trient plateau serves as an accumulation zone and the thickness of its ice is between 100 and 150 m.

Below the Trient plateau, the 600 m wide glacier rushes into the narrow north-facing valley. The difference in level is significant, as it follows a slope of approximately 50% before the tongue ends at 1800 m, below the place called Vésevey.

South of the Pointe d'Orny, the Trient CAS hut (3170 m) overlooks the Trient plateau. It is the starting point for expeditions to the glacier and the summits of the northern part of the Mont Blanc massif.
